What happens, step by step
Cardiometabolic care does not get sorted in one visit. This is what the path looks like, from the first appointment to the check ups that actually matter.

The first consultation
I listen to the whole story: your symptoms, your history, the test results you already have and the way you live. From there we work out your cardiovascular and metabolic risk and what else needs investigating.
The investigations
Echocardiography, the ECG, Holter monitoring, blood pressure monitoring and the ultrasound scans are all done here at the practice. For blood tests you get a precise list, with what matters in your case and why.
The second consultation
We go through the results together. We adjust treatment if it is needed and put a prevention plan down on paper, not just a prescription.
Follow up
Prevention has no finish line. We agree when to repeat the tests and when to see each other again, so we can tell whether what we changed is actually working.
What can be done at the practice
The investigations are done here, in the same visit as the consultation whenever that is possible.
Cardiology consultationA consultation that does not stop at the reason you came in. We go through your history, your test results, your lifestyle and your risk factors, then build a long term prevention plan together.
EchocardiographyA heart ultrasound shows how your heart looks and how it works. In the same session we take a preliminary look at the liver, the carotid arteries and, when needed, the thyroid, at no separate cost.- Holter ECGAn electrocardiogram lasts a few seconds. If your symptoms show up in the evening, during exercise or once a week, you need a continuous recording that can catch them.
- Blood pressure monitoring (ABPM)A single reading at the clinic says very little. ABPM records your blood pressure at regular intervals, day and night, and shows the real pattern, including what happens while you sleep.
Electrocardiogram (ECG)The basic test of the heart: a few minutes, with no discomfort. Its value lies in the reading, that is, in what your tracing means alongside the rest of your story.- Exercise testA heart can behave impeccably at rest and struggle on a flight of stairs. The exercise test records the electrocardiogram and blood pressure at the very moment more is asked of it.
- Ankle-brachial indexA simple comparison between the blood pressure at your ankle and the one at your arm shows whether the arteries of the legs have narrowed. The same figure says something about the heart as well.
Sudden death screeningThe conditions that cause sudden death in young people are silent, but most of them leave marks on the electrocardiogram. The trace is read against the international criteria for athletes, which separate a trained heart from a diseased one.
Body composition analysisWeight on its own says almost nothing. Body composition shows the balance between fat and muscle, and that is where the practical recommendations start.
Beyond the heart
The heart does not work in isolation. The assessment here also looks at the blood vessels, at metabolism and at the organs that directly influence cardiovascular risk.
The carotid arteries
Atherosclerosis starts quietly. The carotids are checked in the same ultrasound, and a plaque seen in time changes the treatment decision.
The liver
Fatty liver very often turns up alongside cardiometabolic risk, so the liver is checked in the same ultrasound.
The thyroid
Palpitations and fatigue sometimes start at the thyroid. A preliminary look, in the same ultrasound, tells us whether an endocrinologist is needed.
Body composition
Fat, muscle mass, hydration. The numbers that practical advice on food and movement starts from.

The doctor who sees you
Dr. Carmen Podar opened the Biocord practice in 2024 around a simple idea: a cardiology consultation needs time in order to be useful. Time for your history, for your test results, for the questions you never get to ask in ten minutes.
She practises preventive and cardiometabolic cardiology, which means the heart is looked at together with blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, weight and sleep, because that is where long term risk is decided.
